                                                                       Ed and Kathy Martinez

The Alzheimer’s Support Center of Rock County is very pleased to announce that the third “Dancing with the Stars” event was a huge success.  The event was a sellout crowd with 700 attendees. All money raised, including sponsorships for the dancers, business sponsorships and ticket sales totals over $54,000.

The big winners of the evening were Andy and Angie Richardson, swing dancing to “Needles and Pins, You’re Sixteen, and Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu”.  Their instructors were Ezekiel Cribbs and Brandi White from the Fred Astaire dance school in Madison Wisconsin. The second position couple were Jeni Sauser and Todd Kimball taught by Gladys Beauchamp. Third position was filled by Chris Vine and Jim Fenton, also taught by Gladys Beauchamp.  Other dance couples included Rebecca Powers and Michael Schmitt , taught by Ken Stroud and Dorothy Henderson, Kathi Meek Martinez and Ed Martinez taught by Rich and Candy Nelson, Jessica and Tom Klug  taught by Jim and Dani Gadjosik, Jennifer Schmidt and Dave Vernig, taught by Eric and Debra Gillitzer of Dance on Air dance studio in Madison Wisconsin, and Lucy Anderson and Red Hot Ken Scott taught by John and Karen Wood.

The Alzheimer’s Support Center would like to thank the sponsors, dancers, instructors, and volunteers for helping to make the evening a memorable one.

Many hours were donated in preparation for the event, and the audience and the Alzheimer’s Support Center reaped the benefits, culminating in a wonderful program for everyone.

The Alzheimer’s Support Center is not affiliated with any other organization and all proceeds stay in the Rock County area.  All money raised stays in our community. The Alzheimer’s Support center is in it’s 11th year, and we look ahead to the future where they will continue to provide services for families, caregivers and those who have Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

2/16/09: From the Desk of President Andy Richardson

This is in rebuttal of a recent article in the NY Times:

On Thursday, February 6th, I spent 2 hours with Steve Greenhouse, a reporter from the NY Times.  We had many different conversations on many different topics.  We talked about the JOBS Bank and what it meant to our membership to lose it, and how we gain no time towards retirement without it.  We talked about the closing of the plant and how it has affected the community, and in my opinion, what the future holds for the community.  We talked about the current status of Local 95, and what the future holds for the wonderful staff that we employ here at Local 95.  We talked about the possibility of losing SUB pay, and the devastation that it would bring to everybody.

The question that I was asked, “In the worse case scenario, what would you do if that happened?”  My answer to Steve was “I would then have to transfer.”  He then asked me where to?  It was then that I told him “To the closest place possible.”

I cannot believe that was the only thing that Steve could have taken from our conversation.  I am writing this rebuttal as to not create a panic.  I have not put in for any transfers as of yet, but that may change if things get worse.

I am still here at Local 95, doing my best to help the membership in the difficult times that we all face.

 In Solidarity,
Andy Richardson

10/14/08 From the UAW/GM Benefit's Office regarding SUB benefits:
Do
NOT apply for SUB benefits on line or the telephone.  We are a AUTO SUB plant and your SUB pay will be applied for automatically.  If you enter a request for SUB, it creates two entries for that week.  When two entries are requested, you have an overpayment in the system for that week.  Next year, when they audit the books, you will get an overpayment letter form GM.  You will need to prove that you were not overpaid. This will take time to fix and stop your SUB Benefits until it's fixed.
